About

Hi, my name is Jan Florentsen. I am a passionate photographer from the village of Gundsømagle, located 10 km north of Roskilde, Denmark. The village is situated in beautiful surroundings between the fjord, the forest, and the countryside. These surroundings have been a great inspiration for my photography over the years, and they continue to be. Being able to stand in the middle of nature and observe the light, shadows, contrasts, and colors is truly wonderful.

I am also an avid traveler, and you’ll notice that many of my pictures are from different countries around the world, with a focus on the Nordic countries. As you’ll see in my photos, I appreciate strong contrasts in both color and black-and-white images. These striking contrasts often appear in my backlight photos.

Nature isn’t my only inspiration; architecture, cities, and people also play a significant role in my photography. In my daily work, I am a teacher at a large private school in Roskilde, where I teach math, physics, and geography.

Besides my photographs, I have also started painting in the last couple of years. It involves oil on canvas – paintings where I typically incorporate my own interpretation based on a photograph into the oil painting. I find great joy in being able to transform a photograph into another medium and create a visual expression that I find interesting.
